Vous serez certainement surpris d'apprendre que le mot synopsis
est un nom féminin. Eh oui, même s'il est employé le plus souvent
sous la forme masculine, il serait plus juste de dire une synopsis.
Autant utilisé en français qu'en anglais, je pense qu'il était
difficilement possible de faire mieux comme titre pour un journal,
d'autant plus, et c'est le comble, qu'il a effectivement un rapport
avec le cinéma. Dans une société, où le politiquement correct
est de rigueur, avoir trouvé un tel titre relève déjà d'un véritable
exploit !
Synopsis c'est avant tout un outil de promotion du cinéma indépendant
et, je dois honnêtement l'avouer, un outil de promotion de Main
Film.
Vous y trouverez un ensemble d'articles concernant les diverses
productions utilisant nos services, des articles de fond, un calendrier
d'activités, des petites annonces, etc. Fait bénévolement (quelle
surprise !), il est le fruit du travail d'individus qui, pour
la plupart, n'ont jamais évolué dans le domaine journalistique.
Pourtant, et vous serez certainement d'accord avec moi, les standards
atteints dans cette première publication font preuve d'un très
grand professionnalisme et laissent entrevoir un avenir prometteur
pour les numéros à paraître.
Vos commentaires et suggestions seront les bienvenus et si, par
le plus grand des hasards, vous vous sentiez l'âme d'un journaliste
ou encore aimeriez contribuer à la réalisation des prochains numéros,
nous serions heureux de pouvoir vous accueillir au sein de notre
équipe.

Welcome to the first issue of Synopsis! I recently spent an intense
and exciting week at the Summer Institute of Film and Television
in Ottawa where I was struck by two things : 1) The prevailing
pessimism towards the state of the Canadian film industry and
2) The fact that Québec was hailed as a province that supports
and celebrates its film industry. "Oh, you're from Québec," they
said to me. "You guys are so lucky". While most of us living and
working here would strongly argue against this point - it certainly
isn't easy to get a film made in this province - I do believe
that Québec filmmakers have had a history of making films that
represent our own unique culture, That, in turn, makes for a cinema
that is rich, controversial, interesting in its own right.
And so we come to SYNOPSIS. Those of us who have been involved
in launching this magazine believe there exists a need for a regular
publication by and for the independent film community in Montréal.
In this first issue, and in issues to come, we present a bevy
of information from interviews with well-known filmmakers like
Mario Bolduc, to discussions with first-time filmmakers such as
architect Nathalie Dionne. We feature a comprehensive technical
article on everything you wanted to know about shooting in Super
16 but were afraid to ask, an update on the state of affairs at
the NFB and what exactly it will mean to us all, a journey down
the Virtual Super Highway, and much more.
I have no doubt that everyone, from seasoned filmmakers, to cinéphiles
will find something of interest in SYNOPSIS.
