Main Film Production Support Programme

THE FILM FACTORY @ MAIN FILM

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 2ND, 2010

The FILM FACTORY renews the ties with film as an art form, where the creative process of research and experimentation is the core experience and the end product a derivative of the creative process.

The goal of MAIN FILM'S programme is to nurture and to stimulate the artistic growth of independent filmmakers wishing to explore, deepen and develop their own unique creative language through the tactile medium of film.

The FILM FACTORY is about process not product. Research and experimentation are an intrinsic part of creation, and discovery is the prologue to enduring artistic innovation. Our objective is to foster the creative process of filmmakers by offering them access, space and time to explore something new, something they rarely have the means to do.

THE PROGRAMME

The FILM FACTORY provides the environment, the tools and the training for artists to undertake creative risks in the development, exploration, and experimentation of their own artistic practice of film as an art form. Through offering filmmakers a process-oriented approach to filmmaking and giving them the freedom, time and opportunity to explore and invent new approaches, crafts and techniques of the filmmaking process, the FILM FACTORY becomes a vital incubator for new visions in film.

FILM FACTORY participants have the opportunity to work on their project within our fiscal year (April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011) with access to MAIN FILM'S equipment, facilities and workshops. If the training required by the filmmaker is more specialized than MAIN FILM'S regular workshops can provide, individual training will be offered. Filmstock will be provided, but recipients must pay for their own processing.

Successful proposals will demonstrate the filmmaker's readiness to explore and to innovate, as well as their need to further their own individual filmmaking language. They must have a particular goal in mind which need not necessarily be an end product, but could be.

The most innovative projects will be supported - from aesthetic exploration to cultural contribution. Filmmakers at all levels of experience are welcome to apply. The number of artists supported each year is limited to five.

Applicants must provide a list of equipment, facilities and training they expect to use. They will also be required to submit a work schedule. No budget is required for the application.

There is no cash awarded.

ELIGIBILITY - Artists

Filmmakers do not need to be Main Film members to apply. However, successful candidates must become a member of Main Film to trigger the support. Those who are already Main Film members must be members in good standing. All applicants must be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status.
